Writing is hard [citation needed].
For the longest time, I've always thought about having some "place" on the Internet in some shape or form, whether it's a blog where I put out deeply insightful posts that grab millions of people from the Orange Site™2, or a quaint little lovingly hand-crafted page that pushes the frontier of web design with well thought out pages and animations and...
None of that happened, reader dearest.
I got bogged down by all the options instead:
-
Do I use a static site generator? Hugo? Zola? Something custom made to transform Yet Another Markdown Dialect into viewable HTML/CSS?
-
Do I go "screw it" and make everything by hand? It shouldn't be too hard (it is), I know like aaalllll the tags anyways (there's
<body>
and<head>
and uh...). -
Hm, you know this React (+ NextJS/Remux/whatever-web-technology-is-in-vogue-today) thing, kinda wanted to avoid it but y'unnoooooo...
...etc.
What ended up happening was a neat cycle of committing to finally make a site → a half hearted attempt at doing so → feeling bad → committing again, and so on. A few results came out of it, there's this remarkably empty Eleventy site that has like 30 words of text, and a little GitHub Pages site I have since deleted.
Artemis' So, do you actually want to write? really describes the situation well...I want to put something into the world, but get distracted by "oou shiny new SSG" and "no let me scrap this and start over" over and over again. That was one of the final things that let to...this.
A few days ago, I came across Ludicity's I Will Fucking Piledrive You If You Mention AI Again and apart from the fact that it was a really neat post (coming from someone with loads of fatigue from watching people blindly trust the latest LLM chatbot on the block), my mind went:
"Hmm, that's a really nice site, cute design, no fuss, nothing. Would be a shame if it was a victim of some...theft"
Luckily before I got my hands dirty I saw the footer "Powered by mataroa.blog", and here we are.
It's all I need—no more worries about how it looks or maintaining it (I wish I could force it to be in Inter though, not just sans-serif), and maybe I can actually finally begin to write something.
So yes, that's the story of the beginnings of this. Maybe I'll get around to doing all that I want to do:
- write about school maybe, I'm about to finish so now's the best time.
- make a list of "things to read if you wanna see what i like" articles.
- write about actually important things, like school maybe ('m about to finish so now's the best time), or a cool project I've done1.
But well, that's all in the future (along with tons of footnotes)3.
For now? Six exams in eight days.
AHHHH footnotessss, the horror
hiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii, good luck with your blog 🥺🍆
Omg yayyyy, blog!!!!! SO CUTE!!
